Match Summary
In a goalless yet engaging match against Ashover, a disallowed goal, missed opportunities, and a late penalty scare led to a 0-0 draw, with Ollie Black earning Man of the Match for his relentless efforts on the right wing.
A trip to Ashover this morning saw a 0-0 draw against a cobras team that sat a point behind us in the league.
As dull as 0-0 sounds, it was an end to end encounter which saw a lack of success in front of goal making it ‘one of those games’.
We did break the deadlock midway through the first half but the flag went up for offside, ruling out the goal.
Ashover are a big strong side and they won many of the first balls in the air but they didn’t deal with our attacking play too well when the ball was on the floor. Too many touches from our attackers prevented the ball from making its way into the box often enough and when it did, the finish wasn’t there.
I felt that we edged the second half, creating many chances, a couple of which would have gone in on any other day but today the goalkeeper was equal to it. He was arguably their man of the match.
With a couple of minutes to go, we could have thrown the point away as a soft penalty was given. The strike crashed against the bar and we attacked to try and grab the winner but it wasn’t to be.
Man of the Match was Ollie Black who worked tirelessly up and down the right wing. He had a lot of success down the right hand side.
