In a scrappy away game at Barnsley for the ESFA cup, despite numerous missed chances and a fortunate equalizer for the opposition, Jamie M’s goal and a composed finish by Max secured a 2-1 victory, with Manny earning Man of the Match for his relentless work in midfield.
Not the most exciting game today. Away at Barnsley in ESFA cup.
Scrappy 1st half’s giving ball away and slow build up play was our main issue. Never looked under any pressure throughout the game and had plenty of chances to score before we finally took the lead with another goal from Jamie M to take us in to second half 1-0 up.
After talking about the need to move ball quicker and the fact our wing backs had loads of open space but not switching ball quicker enough. We started to play better. After a misplaced pass and striker not closed down quick enough they scored a lucky deflected goal looping over Austin head. They never looked like scoring but we gave them a opening and they took it. A reaction is what I needed to see to being pegged back. And through a excellent bit of football started from ch played up to cf set back to mid played through to no 10 Max calmly finished to put us back in front.
Lots of players missing again with two development players stepping up and not looking out of place. James and max. Main positives from the game was when we lost ball how quickly we won it back. Controlled game again but not our normal standards but 3 points and the win is all that matters.
Ref m.o.m Manny never stopped working hard in midfield and assisted the winner.
