Despite a challenging match where they twice trailed, the team ultimately won 5-3 with goals from Harry Walker, Jenson Andrews, and Fin Pearson, advancing to the next cup round.
A trip to the bottom of division 3 in the cup should have been a straight forward game, this was anything but. Although we controlled the game in terms of possession and chances, we didn’t capitalise. To compound this we were undone twice in the first half by a long, straight ball down the middle meaning we were 1-0 and then 2-1 down.
We asked the boys to move the ball faster and play around the opposition. Wide players keeping width allowing us to exploit the spaces. Although we did this in patches and created lots of chances we need to do this more regularly with the lads being disciplined to do what’s best for the team. Fin and Seb in the centre of the park were the joint players of the match from the referee. ???????? Reason being they controlled the game by doing exactly what we need, move the ball, get it back.
Second half we were 2-4 up and looking very comfortable, but still not taking chances. They pulled one back with 10 mins to go, which could have meant a nervous end to the game. If anything this is when we played our best football and sealed the game with a 5th goal.
Plenty to learn, but ultimately one to forget! On we go to the next round.
