Despite being low on numbers, our team earned a hard-fought victory against last season’s runners-up Ashover Cobras, with standout performances from Elijah and Man of the Match, Noah Coleman, who returned from injury.
Today we welcomed Ashover Cobras to the Phoenix, last seasons runners up and a very good team.
We were low on numbers with several players with the first team or out with injuries so we expected a tough test.
The game started with Ashover pushing us backwards and it took ten minutes for us to find a rhythm. When we did, Aiden played the ball to Zack who launched a spectacular one from 30 yards to put us ahead.
A couple of half chances followed but Ashover defended well and kept us out. As half time approached, our opponents won a corner and despite a great save from Theo, the attacker reacted quickest and prodded home
The second half was a little more open and several chances came and went. Elijah, who was brilliantly deputising as captain, set off on a mazy run before smashing home to put us ahead.
Every player in yellow put in a shift working together to push the three points over the line. A hard earned win.
Today saw a welcome return for Noah Coleman who has been out with an injury and the referee chose him as today’s Man of the Match. A big presence, holding the ball up well throughout.
